Metabolic Balance Basics

From “My Metabolism Has Stopped Working” to Feeling Like Herself Again: Beverly’s Metabolic Balance Journey

For more than 10 years, Beverly watched her weight slowly climb.

She had been through perimenopause and into menopause, and what had worked for her earlier in life simply wasn’t working anymore.

She tried keto.
She tried intermittent fasting.
She counted calories.
She tried other approaches that promised results.

But the scale continued to move in the wrong direction.

And perhaps the hardest part wasn’t even the weight.

It was the feeling that her body had stopped responding.

Beverly was putting in the effort, but she wasn’t seeing the results she expected. She was frustrated, disappointed, and beginning to wonder if this was simply what happened as you got older.

What if this was just her new normal?

Then she decided to try something different.

Three months later, Beverly had lost 20 pounds without adding an exercise program. But when I asked her what had changed, the most important part of her answer wasn’t the number on the scale.

She told me:

“More importantly, I feel like my metabolism is working again.”

And that is the part of Beverly’s story I want to share with you.

Because her journey wasn’t really about finding another diet.

It was about finally finding an approach that made sense for her body.

When Doing Everything “Right” Still Isn’t Working

Beverly’s experience will probably sound familiar to many women over 40.

For years, she had been told, directly or indirectly, that if she wanted to change her weight, she simply needed to eat less, exercise more, or be more disciplined.

And she had tried.

But as she moved through perimenopause and menopause, the strategies that had once worked no longer seemed to produce the same results.

She described feeling frustrated because she was putting in the effort without seeing results.

At one point, she felt like her metabolism had simply stopped working.

That can be such a defeating place to be.

You start questioning yourself.

Am I eating too much?

Should I exercise more?

Why does this seem to work for everyone else?

Maybe I just need more willpower.

And eventually, you can start to believe that the weight gain is inevitable.

Beverly was getting to that point herself.

She was tired of being disappointed. Tired of avoiding photos. Tired of not liking how she looked.

Part of her was beginning to wonder if she should simply accept that this was how things were going to be.

But instead of giving up, she decided to look for a different answer.

The Turning Point: Looking at Her Body, Not Just the Scale

What appealed to Beverly about Metabolic Balance® was that it wasn’t another generic eating plan.

It was personalized.

Instead of being handed a list of foods that supposedly worked for everyone, the approach looked at her individual blood values and used that information to create her nutrition plan.

That distinction mattered.

After years of trying different diets with little success, Beverly wanted to understand what her body needed.

And once she started following a plan that was matched to her individual needs, something began to change.

Not overnight.

Not through some extreme approach.

But steadily.

What Working Together Looked Like

One of the things I love about Metabolic Balance® is that there is a structure to the process.

You’re not left trying to figure it all out on your own.

We started by looking at Beverly’s individual information and creating a personalized nutrition plan based on her blood values.

From there, we worked together to help her understand the plan, how to structure her meals, and how to make it work in her everyday life.

And just as importantly, I was there to support her along the way.

Questions came up.

We talked through them.

There were adjustments to make.

And like any meaningful change, there was some planning and preparation involved.

Beverly is very honest about that.

She said the eating plan was quite restrictive during the first few weeks, but because she enjoyed the food, it was much easier to follow than she expected.

Once she understood the structure and got organized, she found that it wasn’t difficult to maintain.

That is an important part of her story.

Personalized doesn’t mean effortless.

You still have to participate.

You still have to plan.

You still have to make choices.

But when the plan makes sense for you, those choices can start to feel very different.

Instead of feeling like you’re constantly fighting yourself, you begin to understand why you’re doing what you’re doing.

The Results: More Than 20 Pounds

Within her first three months, Beverly lost 20 pounds without adding an exercise program.

The biggest drop happened during the first two weeks, and after that she continued losing approximately a pound a week.

Those are exciting results.

But if you’ve been following my work for a while, you know that I don’t believe your health story should be reduced to a number on a scale.

What really caught my attention was everything else Beverly noticed.

She told me:

“For years I felt stuck, and now my body is responding in a way that feels natural and sustainable.”

She also developed a completely different relationship with food.

She no longer felt deprived when she made healthy choices.

Instead, she began seeing those choices as a way of choosing her health, her future, and her quality of life.

And she enjoyed the food she was eating.

That made it easier to follow the plan and build momentum.

But perhaps the biggest shift was what happened after the initial structure of the program.

Beverly began developing habits that felt natural rather than restrictive.

She started making more intentional choices and thinking about the bigger picture instead of focusing on short-term gratification.

As she put it:

“For the first time in years, healthy eating feels less like a diet and more like a lifestyle I can maintain for the long term.”

That’s a transformation I value just as much as the number on the scale.

She Learned Something Important About Her Body

One of Beverly’s biggest surprises was how personalized the program actually was.

She also discovered that she wasn’t destined to simply accept the weight gain she had begun to think was inevitable.

After years of trying different approaches, she had started to lose hope.

But once she followed a plan that matched her body’s needs, the results came much more easily than she expected.

She realized something that I wish more women knew:

You are not necessarily stuck.

Sometimes you don’t need to try harder.

Sometimes you need a different approach.

In Beverly’s Own Words

When I asked Beverly what she would say to another woman who was considering Metabolic Balance®, her answer was simple:

“If you’re in perimenopause or menopause and feel like you’ve tried everything, don’t give up.”

She knows what it’s like to do all the “right” things and still feel like your body isn’t cooperating.

She knows what it’s like to feel discouraged.

And she also knows what it’s like to finally find an approach that makes sense.

She said:

“This was the first program that helped me understand what my body needed and gave me results that felt sustainable rather than extreme.”

She also shared something that means a lot to me as a coach:

“Sarah was supportive, knowledgeable, and available whenever I had questions. Her science-based approach helped me trust the process, and her accountability helped me stay on track.”

And perhaps most importantly, she said that she developed habits that fit her real life, rather than following another short-term diet.

Why Beverly’s Story Matters

I see a version of Beverly’s story often.

Women come to me after years of trying to figure this out on their own.

They’ve tried diets.

They’ve tried cutting carbs.

They’ve counted calories.

They’ve exercised.

They’ve been disciplined.

And yet their bodies aren’t responding the way they used to.

By the time they reach me, many are frustrated and wondering if something is wrong with them.

Nothing is wrong with you because the old approach stopped working.

Your body changes.

Your circumstances change.

Your nutritional needs can change.

And sometimes the strategy needs to change too.

That’s why I believe so strongly in personalized nutrition.

Rather than guessing what might work, Metabolic Balance® gives us a framework for creating a nutrition plan based on your individual blood values and then supporting you as you put that plan into practice.

And the coaching matters.

Because knowing what to eat is one thing.

Learning how to make those choices work in your actual life is another.

Beverly appreciated having someone she could come to with questions and receive evidence-based explanations rather than opinions or the latest diet trend.

That’s exactly the kind of support I want my clients to experience.

What If You Don’t Have to Keep Fighting Your Body?

Maybe you see yourself somewhere in Beverly’s story.

You’ve tried things that worked in the past, but they don’t seem to work anymore.

You’ve been eating “healthy,” but your body isn’t responding the way you expect.

You’re tired of starting over.

You’re tired of feeling like you’re failing.

And maybe, somewhere along the way, you’ve started wondering if this is simply what life looks like now.

I don’t believe you have to accept that.

You don’t need another extreme diet.

You don’t need to punish yourself with more exercise.

And you certainly don’t need more guilt.

You may simply need a better understanding of what your body needs.

That’s what we explore through my Metabolic Reset program using the Metabolic Balance® method.

Together, we create a personalized nutrition approach based on your individual blood values, and I support you as you learn how to make it work in your everyday life.

Because the goal isn’t simply to lose weight.

It’s to feel better in your body.

To have more confidence in your choices.

To develop habits you can actually live with.

And ultimately, to feel like yourself again.

Could Metabolic Balance Be Right for You?

If Beverly’s story sounds familiar, let’s talk.

You don’t have to know whether Metabolic Balance® is right for you before you book a call.

That’s what the conversation is for.

We’ll talk about where you are now, what you’ve tried, what you’re hoping to change, and whether my approach is a good fit for you.

You don’t have to figure this out alone.

And you don’t have to accept that your best years of feeling good in your body are behind you.

Much love and encouragement,

Sarah x
